It's well known and acknowledged that a woman's body goes through many changes during pregnancy, but what about the changes post-delivery or postpartum? There's a wealth of information available to help you through labor and delivery—prenatal classes, birthing classes, and countless books and resources online. I'm truly grateful for all the women who have shared their stories over the years. Their experiences help guide us through these changes as we step into motherhood.

Once we have that adorable new baby in our arms, what comes next? While we're focused on caring for our newborn and their various stages, we often overlook the changes new moms experience after the baby arrives. From my experience (having had four babies), there isn't much information on managing the stages our bodies go through to return to normal and how long that process takes. We're talking about moods, tiredness to exhaustion, sleep and naps, deciding between returning to work or being a stay-at-home mom, nursing or formula, how our bodies will change, and how long it takes to feel like ourselves again—plus many more changes I haven't even mentioned. I hope to explore some of these topics today, with more to follow later.
Embracing Homeopathy
My "go-to" is homeopathy because it has been evaluated and shown to be safe and effective for people of all ages, including those who are pregnant, postpartum, or nursing. The most challenging aspect of homeopathy is aligning your symptoms with your key symptoms and modalities (factors that improve or worsen your condition). Take some time each day to journal about your emotional and physical state, as well as what alleviates or exacerbates your symptoms. This practice will assist in identifying the remedy that will benefit you the most.
Milk Supply
I will always support breastfeeding your baby, whether it involves just a few days of colostrum, a few weeks of nursing, or a longer commitment. Any amount of time spent nursing your baby is beneficial. You are the only person who truly understands your body, personal circumstances, and goals. Make sure to discuss everything with your husband so he can provide the best support possible—communication is essential.
Factors that Can Affect Milk Supply
Sleep (lack of/exhaustion)
Stress
Water intake
Diet
Clogged ducts
Homeopathy for Milk Supply
This is not an exhaustive list but covers many usual issues. Potency commonly ranges anywhere between 6C - 30C, taken 1-3 times daily. Homeopathy is not traditional medicine—you'll stop taking the remedy when improvement begins. A licensed homeopath can guide you through the details of how and when to take the remedy, and NCC would love the opportunity to walk with you on this journey. Schedule Today!
Urtica urens
Milk fails to come in after birth
Milk suppressed from emotional shock, fever, or exhaustion
Ricinus communis
General low milk supply
Breasts soft, scant secretion (increases milk production when taken in low potency)

Understanding Postpartum Depression
Postpartum Depression (PPD) is REAL! I experienced PPD after each of my children. Before discovering the benefits of natural remedies, I relied on pharmaceuticals that left me feeling like a zombie and disconnected from life (and my baby). After facing various challenges with traditional medicine for depression between 1993 and 1997, I decided to conduct my own research and experimented on myself. Due to government regulations and restrictions, I cannot reveal the specifics of my findings here, but as a holistic practitioner and homeopath, I can share those details with you during a consultation.
Homeopathy Can Make a Big Difference!
Using homeopathy for PPD always depends on the individual's exact emotional picture, not the diagnosis alone. This is where journaling will help too, along with sharing those feelings with your spouse. Sometimes they notice things we don't. Here are some top homeopathic choices, and I'm only listing a couple of symptoms; otherwise, the list would get very long and confusing.
Sepia - Indifference to baby or partner; wants to be alone
Ignatia - Acute grief; disappointment; sighing; lump in throat sensation
Pulsatilla - Mild, clingy, tearful depression; wants comfort and reassurance
Natrum mur - Silent grief, withdrawal; doesn't want to talk about feelings
Phosphorus - Anxiety, exhaustion, emotional sensitivity; overwhelmed by caring for others

Navigating Postpartum Hemorrhoids
Once you hold that beautiful new baby in your arms, you quickly forget about all the aches and pains it took to get there—until it's time to use the bathroom. Swelling and inflammation occur, making it painful to relieve yourself, with stinging, burning, and constipation setting in rather quickly. Fortunately, we have a homeopathic ally!
My favorite homeopathic remedy for after childbirth is Aloe Socotrina. Gentle but very effective!
Aloe Socotrina Uses
Rectal weakness after vaginal birth
Postpartum hemorrhoids/thrombosed hemorrhoids - including protruding hemorrhoids that are purple, hot, and swollen
Postpartum bowel changes - sudden urgency due to pelvic floor laxity or healing from a perineal tear or episiotomy
Pelvic congestion & pressure feeling - feeling of heaviness in the pelvis
Note: This is not an exhaustive list.
