Understanding Measles: Symptoms, Homeopathic Support, and Fact Sheet

With all the talk about measles in the media these days I thought it would be a good idea to share a fact sheet from the Health Freedom Institute as well as some ways to support you and your family with homeopathy.

The fact sheet lists statistics, research from PubMed, CDC and WHO statements, and other facts you should consider. This fact sheet does not negate the fact that measles is a serious virus that causes many uncomfortable symptoms.

Symptoms of the Measles Virus:

• Most symptoms of the Measles virus begins with a fever (as does many viruses)

• A rash will show up first on the hairline of the forehead and travel downward; fine rash, some clusters

• Eyes may become red and watery/ may also be sensitive to light

• Lymph nodes in the neck may swell

• Body Aches, lethargy, headache

• Sore throat - usually with red/blue bumps in the mouth (Koplik's spots)

• In some cases a secondary bacterial infection of the skin and/or lungs can occur, seeking medical help/ going to a clinic or hospital may be needed to treat the bacterial infection.

Homeopathic Options:

Homeopathy can support and reduce the symptoms of the measles virus as they appear. *Common remedies that have been used for measles include:

• Aconitum Napellus - (can be used prophylactically) is useful in emergencies and acute diseases like measles, influenza, and mumps that all begin with great intensity and fever. It is also effective for conjunctivitis and red, swollen eyelids.

• Apis Mel - for use with rash with swelling, stinging pains; for eyes when they are bright red & puffy; any type of swelling in mouth, throat, lips, eyes.

• Belladonna - extreme state of irritability; for headache; neurologic pains associated with hot, red skin, flushed face; swelling of glands of neck; barking cough; whooping cough; painful ears; conjunctivitis with inflammation

• Bryonia - **Catarrhal conditions of the eyes; it is not so often thought of as an inflammatory remedy for the eyes when there are no other symptoms, but eye symptoms will be found, redness, inflammation, congestion, heat, enlargement of the veins, burning and smarting, associated with headaches, with coryza, with troubles in the air passages, bronchitis, etc. Sore aching in the eyes, the eyeballs can hardly be touched, so tender to touch, as if bruised, increased from coughing or pressure. Such conditions come with chest complaints, with colds and headaches.

• Morbillinum - (nosode option) this option is probably the best as it covers most symptoms of the measles; Clarke would prescribe a dose a couple times daily as a prophylactic given to those who may be exposed and for the treatment of the virus as well;  please consult a homeopath for dosing;

• Pulsatilla - for eruptions on the skin; measles with catarrhal symptoms; skin itches on being heated

• Sulphur -

Homeopathy is based on the Law of Similars (like treats like) as compared to Allopathic or conventional medicine treats based on the Law of Opposites. Both Laws go back to Hipocrates.

It may be comforting to know that using homeopathy for measles support can work in conjunction with allopathic/conventional medicine. There are many countries across the globe that have Conventional medicine and Homeopathic medicine working side by side to support the patient. There are no interactions with Homeopathic medication and traditional treatments, and homeopathics are safe for all ages including infants and elderly. There are general instructions on the remedy as to how often to take them, however you may want to consult a trained homeopath for more specific guidance, dosage and potency.
